Phobia is a very strong aversion against something. It becomes a problem when the aversion is causing more distress than it logically.

Commonly known phobias are fear of spiders, fear of water, fear of leaving the house, but the list is unending.

A phobia can seriously restrict one's life: we try to avoid situations which might cause an attack, limiting us so to move freely and enjoy our lives.

NLP (together with hypnosis) is one of the best ways to resolve a phobia - in just a few sessions the object of a phobia can lose its grip on your psychology, and you can again live a natural life within your surroundings.

What kind of Phobias can benefit from NLP Counselling?

  • Direct
  • Indirect

A direct phobia is when a person knows why they are feeling the way they are. For example someone was stung by a wasp in the past, then they may now have an unreasonable fear of wasps.

An indirect phobia is far more complex, the person will not know or understand why they are reacting the way they do to a certain stimulus. It may even seem irrational to them, but they have no way of controlling their feelings or reactions. These type of phobias can evolve and start creating phobias in other areas of their lives which were previously untouched. Indirect phobias invariably take longer to cure.

The fear to the individual is real, even if the danger is not. Phobias are basically telling the person to take flight and get as far away form the situation that is causing their distress. The thing is, very often these phobias do not present a danger, but in the mind of the person they seem completely real. Every time a person encounters the trigger for the phobia, they will react the same way, until they have received counselling.
